چکیده

In this paper, we determine the minimal separators of P4-sparse graphs and establish bounds on their number. Specifically, we show that a P4-sparse graph G on n vertices and m edges has fewer than 2n/3 minimal separators of total description size at most 4m/3. The bound on the number of minimal separators is tight and is also tight for the class of cographs, a well known subclass of the P4-sparse graphs. Our results enable us to present a linear-time and linear-space algorithm for computing the number of minimal separators of a given P4-sparse graph; the algorithm can be modified to report the minimal separators of the input graph in linear time and space as well. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. On variations of P4-sparse graphs

Hoàng defined the P4-sparse graphs as the graphs where every set of five vertices induces at most one P4. These graphs attracted considerable attention in connection with the P4-structure of graphs and the fact that P4-sparse graphs have bounded clique-width. Fouquet and Giakoumakis generalized this class to the nicely structured semi-P4-sparse graphs being the (P5, co-P5, co-chair)-free graphs...

Laplacian integrality in P4-sparse and P4-extendible graphs

Let G be a simple graph and L = L(G) the Laplacian matrix of G. G is called L-integral if all its Laplacian eigenvalues are integer numbers. It is known that every cograph, a graph free of P4, is L-integral. The class of P4-sparse graphs and the class of P4-extendible graphs contain the cographs. It seems natural to investigate if the graphs in these classes are still L-integral. In this paper ...

Minimal Triangulations of Graphs

Any given graph can be embedded in a chordal graph by adding edges, and the resulting chordal graph is called a triangulation of the input graph. In this paper we study minimal triangulations, which are the results of adding an inclusion minimal set of edges to produce a triangulation. This topic was rst studied from the standpoint of sparse matrices and vertex elimination in graphs. Today we k...

The Graph Sandwich Problem for P4-sparse graphs

The P4-sparse Graph Sandwich Problem asks, given two graphs G 1 = (V, E1) and G2 = (V, E2), whether there exists a graph G = (V, E) such that E1 ⊆ E ⊆ E2 and G is P4-sparse. In this paper we present a polynomial-time algorithm for solving the Graph Sandwich Problem for P4-sparse graphs. c © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Weighted Coloring on P4-sparse Graphs

Given an undirected graph G = (V, E) and a weight function w : V → R, a vertex coloring of G is a partition of V into independent sets, or color classes. The weight of a vertex coloring of G is defined as the sum of the weights of its color classes, where the weight of a color class is the weight of a heaviest vertex belonging to it. In the W C problem, we want to determine the mi...
